190115- Ordering Art supplies, funds

Some good news! Our community service coordinator told us that we would provide a fund of 400,000 won (equivalent to $400) for us to buy materials. We were told that all service CCA programs are given such amounts of money, and if we needed more than that, we had to organize a separate fundraising activity.Although it was no problem doing one, it took too long until the fundraising activity would be approved by the school, and we needed art supplies right now.

Because we had only 400,000 won, we had to use our money very wisely and efficiently. We first bought the necessary supplies such as glue guns, cutter knives and such. Since our room was located in the art department, we could borrow some supplies from the art department. Thus, we didn’t buy the supplies that we could borrow such as pencils or acrylic pens; rather, we bought the ones that were hard to find. Then, we bought the supplies that were quite specific to junk art, such as bolts, drivers, drills, and such. But our coordinator also told us some advice; most notably, we live in one of the most reclusive parts of Korea. Yes, Korea has a great delivery system and a culture that is known for its focus on speed. In fact, if one orders a book in Seoul in the morning, one would get it in the afternoon. But even this insane system and culture couldn’t deliver goods quickly enough to our Jeju island. Thus, we must order the supplies at least 2 weeks prior to use, considering the time that is needed to confirm the purchases from the senior team. After these arrive, I am planning to organize them in our storage room.
