Nov 20th -Starting a comms project, Trying to find village and storage
(This post is connected to the one posted on October 15th, so if you are thinking what the hell this is about, please go back to read the October post)
Now, the next step to starting a project is finding a village and storage place to store our art materials.
For the village, our school’s service coordinator organized meetings with local village chiefs (I know that the word ‘chief’ sounds really weird, but I couldn’t find the English equivalent to the position I am referring to. In Korea, there are community leaders in small villages that are in charge of various work from paperwork to farmwork. If you know what they are called in English, please tell me in the comment sections). The village shouldn’t be too far away, because then it would be hard to go to the village and work. We chose five candidates for our villages, and contacted the “chiefs.” We met some of them, and emailed or wrote letters to those whom we couldn’t meet. We briefly introduced what the project would be like, and asked what they thought about it. They told us that they will consult this project with the other villagers, and I am currently waiting for a reply. (Update- see the December 1st post to see reply)
Then, my work was to email school staff if they could find us a storage house. Luckily, the Head of Art who invited me into her house already gave me some advice on the location of the storage house, so I had some idea of where the storage house could be. I also contacted the school maintenance office to ask if there were any empty rooms or storage rooms that I could use. Then, I individually contacted each staff in charge of the storage rooms (and yes, it was a LOT of work), waiting for a reply. Most of them said that they were sorry, and were planning to use the space for something else, but two teachers told me that they could provide me empty space.
One of the teachers was our headmaster (or dormitory dean in US schools), who told me that he could lend a small storage space in our dormitory. (Although I am a day student living in a homestay, I refer him as “our” headmaster because I used to be in his dormitory when I was a boarding student.) The other teacher was in charge of the auditorium and the enormous warehouse behind the auditorium! (The warehouse is literally enormous. I think it could even be used to store a small airplane) Although it would have been good if he could lend us the whole thing, he said that he could let us use a small portion of the warehouse. But even the small portion was quite big, and it also had shelves, so I decided to use the space behind the auditorium as our storage place.
Now that I have a place to store art materials, the next step would be to buy some art supplies and gather recyclable waste.☺️
Update- Art supplies will be ordered after the first CCA session, in which we will plan what to make. I am unsure how we will gather waste, so I got together a few members to think about it.
